  • Cooking (following recipes provided) .   I have had trouble with my insides this year and am working hard with food, especially fibre, and probiotics to improve.   This does make cooking and food very important.   Supermarket internet shopping is also part of the job when you have sufficient knowledge of my food preferences.  Click on "Sample Menu" for an idea of what you'll be cooking.

  • Ironing clothes and bedding, and cleaning my rooms, keeping garden tidy.

  • And if you have massage skills, especially feet, that helps relieve a lot of pain for me

  • Look after cat.

Requirements: Fair English. A Female Carer. A good memory for detail. Willingness to help. Ability to work without constant supervision. Experience in Cooking.

Contract Length: We are offering a 3 shift probationary period followed by a permanent contract. Training carers makes me more disabled so it is important that any applicant is in a situation to consider this as a long-term situation of over 18 months.

We would love it if it could be even longer term!

Qualifications: We are happy to train my new carer in the job as long as she stays sufficiently long to make it worthwhile.

A TYPICAL DAY....

  • Time when you are not on call is 14 hours/week -at the moment 8am-10am each day.

  • We pace each day sitting up/laying down every couple of hrs.  So from the time Jt wakes (12pm-2pm)  you are fitting eating/commodes into the sitting up slot, and making sure she lays down 2hrs after waking (12pm, 2pm ???)

  • So your day starts 7.30 check on Jt's needs and collect cat.  From 10, return to room hourly  and be ready  for the waking up routines including bed-bath This is a time when you can prepare food and then be busy with other quiet tasks. You cook my meals from a planned menu  and are welcome to eat yours when it suits.

  • After Jt's first rest you feed her lunch and do commode.  Feed cat.  Do other tasks and/or help Janet.   Then another 2hr rest time.

  • 2 hrs later sit-up, then tea and commode

  • 9pm Clean Janet's teeth

  • 9.45pm feed supper and prepare for night-time.  You can go to bed once all the care tasks are complete.

  • NIGHT-TIME  I am a night owl  but I can often manage my basic needs at night-time but just because you have gone to bed does not mean you are off duty and you are still responsible for my needs.

FAQs:

WHAT SHIFTS WILL I WORK?

Handover starts at 5 pm on a Tuesday, with the departing carer free after 5.45 pm

WHAT ABOUT TRAVEL EXPENSES?

At the moment there are no travel costs incurred during your work for me.  Your costs to get from home to work will be your own responsibility.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD?

You must bring the food you need with you, or buy it in your free time.   We have a Budgens Store nearby.   My kitchen  has  a hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and oven for reasonable use.   Although you must remove your property from my house when your shift ends, I do provide each carer with a box for imperishable products, to store in the fortnight off, and allow a small amount to be left in my freezer.

WHAT ABOUT FREE TIME?

We provide 14 hours of free time in each week.  The schedule is my decision.  Its is 2 hrs free from 8am every morning. (No single break will be longer than 4 hours).  This is provided so you can attend to your personal daily needs like showering, or food prep.   It is your responsibility to be available to me at all other times, and that you manage to live so that you are fit and healthy enough to do your best for me.

WHEN DO I GET PAID?

We do the payroll every  4 weeks Our only method of payment is: Bank Transfer.

WHAT WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE CONTRACT?

I have put an example of the employment contract on this page.

SHOULD I BE SELF-EMPLOYED OR YOUR EMPLOYEE?

All my carers must be employees unless they qualify as "self employed" by filling in the HMRC form.  You can still be self-employed or someone else's employee in a second job.
